Redecorating or Renovating? 3 Reasons Why You Should Be Buying Your Artwork First
There is nothing more exciting than redecorating or renovating your home!
I am sure you will have thought about the paint colour or whether to hang wallpaper and even what new furniture you will need…. but I bet you haven’t even thought about what artwork to get to bring that wow factor to the room?
Most people only think about what artwork to put in their room at the end when everything else is in place! By doing this you are only making things harder for yourself…. So, to help, here are my 3 reason why you should be thinking about your artwork at the outset.
1) Start With The Art:
When you are thinking about colours and wallpaper and furniture, think about what artwork you will need. Consider how many artworks you need, the size, colour and genre and a realistic budget. To help to get your ideas into place, cut out images of artwork you like the look of from magazines or instagram images. By starting with the art, your ideas will evolve with your plan. You can then begin to source your artwork online (or better still get an art consultant to do it for you!) and there will be no surprises or last minute purchases at the end. For example, if you choose to have a busy colourful wallpaper, you can think about whether an artwork would work on that wall or whether you should have a metal sculpture or even a mirror. You may have new bold curtains or upholstery that you have to consider or want to consider the relevant frame styles.
2) Decision Overload:
There are so many things to think about when you are redecorating or renovating, it seems you have to make decisions on every tiny detail as you go along, the fixtures and fittings, the furniture, the flooring, the curtains - all making sure they are all going to work together and come within budget…so when it comes to buying your artwork - you are all decisioned-out! You can’t face thinking about anything, especially artwork! It is just one decision too far!
That is why people fall into the trap of hanging artwork they already have for ‘the time being’ or never get around to getting any artwork at all and end up with blank walls! The room is never completed.
3) Last Minute.Com!:
As soon as the decorating is done and the furniture in, you naturally want your room to be complete and to feel settled as soon as you can. Without the artwork, the room is not reaching it’s full potential, it is missing a wow factor. So, if you are only thinking about your artwork now, you are immediately putting yourself under pressure to buy your artwork quickly and end up with something that’s not right.
The other downfall of leaving your artwork until last is that you may run out of budget and have to wait a while before getting your artwork and completing your room!
Remember, start with the art and everything else falls into place!
