Rachel creates works in a variety of media, mainly acrylics, producing atmospheric and deceptively understated pieces often on a large scale.

As real as it is, happiness sometimes feels alien. If we compartmentalise it, it can instead be revisited when we are more comfortable with it. An often preferable and familiar box with it’s certain and definite borders, however dark, can feel safer.

The flat, opaque black areas signify that unchanging safety in stagnation. To contrast that reliability of solidity, the lighter brighter areas with effects produced from diluted acrylic paint have less reliable boundaries. The details in those areas, occasionally textural are suggestive of sparks of courage needed to accept happiness.
