Katherine Van Uytrecht

Born in South Africa, Katherine Van Uytrecht graduated from the Michaelis School of Fine Art at the University of Cape Town with a major in printmaking.

She has worked as a printmaker for Graphic Studio Dublin, Stoney Road Press for over 9 years, making and editioning prints and exhibiting in various shows in Ireland and internationally. She is currently a member of Black Church Print Studio in Dublin and Grafik i Väst in Sweden. She is now living in London and works for London Print Studio.

Katherine’s work often contains imagery taken from her memories of people or a moment in time. She tries to construct a new context for objects and places by recreating scenes in a light hearted or whimsical way. By capturing snippets in time, observing her environment and emotions, and searching for her roots, she tries to make sense of her place in the world. Although these images are based on an exploration of her identity with its myriad of meanings, by creating something playful she hopes to share her enjoyment of the world around her with others. Alongside humour, quirky juxtapositions reflect on an exploration of identity- who we are and how we are all connected. Snapshots of the everyday, where the boundary between the sacred and the ordinary is blurred, create a space/dialogue to uncover beauty in the normal day to day life and find gratitude, appreciation and delight in the small things.
